You can’t judge a smartphone by its case. Or can you? Come to think of it, there’s nothing more to smartphone cover jazz-ups than the ego, no? The whole point of donning unique prints or patterns on custom design phone cases; expressing those personal tastes and quirks that make you who you are.
Sure, you can pretend it’s all just to make you feel like you have a say in how you accessorize, but let’s face it; it’s all for show. Now that it’s settled, let’s make it clear that it’s not just any ‘show’. There’s tangible technology and ingenuity that goes into every single atom in your phone case.
First of all, someone in a real factory needs to cut chunks of rubber, metal, vinyl or plastic out with a giant stencil machine. Then someone else fits that rubber piece opposite a special foil, and glue the two together with a giant press. Another machine makes the beautiful ridges and holes you need for your camera or stand. Yet another machine makes the textures we all know and love, including snake-skin, embossing, and leather-like sheen. Occasionally, a heat gun will be used to stiffen the edges, but that all depends on the type of case.
As for the printing process, not just any printer can get the job done. There are several ways to go about it, but one of the simplest is to use a printer to draw stencils on a sheet of paper. You the use them as reference points or frames, and place the phone covers on the paper and on the printing tray. The printer will then print directly on the personalised phone cases.
If you’re not particularly thrilled with the idea of spending thousands of pounds on the right printer and presses for the job, don’t fret! Custom design phone cases are always an option.
