Top 5 Touch Screen Devices

In the past year or so, there has been a surge in the number of touch screen devices such as tablet computers and laptops with touch screen capabilities introduced to the market. Let’s face it, it’s much more fun to tap and swipe on a piece of glass than using decades old technology such as keyboard and mouse input devices.

Even mobile phones such as smartphones have done away with the traditional keyboard buttons that we were all accustomed to. In this article, we take a look at the top five touch screen devices that we all know and love.

Smartphones – the Apple iPhone 5

Despite being a bit stagnant recently in terms of new and exciting innovative features (especially in the face of fierce competition from the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for example), and one or two schoolboy errors such as the new Maps app saga which replaced Google Maps as the default mapping software on the phone, Apple smartphones are still much-revered and loved.

The iPhone 5 has many new feature upgrades over its predecessor, the iPhone 4S, and with the announcement of the revamped iOS 7 coming in the next few months, this smartphone will be even more awesome than it already is!

Tablet Computers – the Apple iPad

Apple’s iPad tablet is still the market leader in the tablet computing world. Tablets are one of the best-selling touch screen devices in the world. In the first quarter of 2013, there were 49.2 million tablets sold around the world – 19.5 million were Apple iPad tablets. This makes up a market share of 39.6%.

The iPad Mini, introduced in October 2012, has also helped to attain such a figure.

Laptops – the HP Envy x2

There is a plethora of touch screen enabled laptops these days, and one of the best ones on the market at the moment is the HP Envy x2. This is a hybrid laptop of sorts; you can use it like you would a normal laptop, with the added benefit of the touch screen display.

But the beauty of this laptop is that the screen detaches from the base, and you can then use the screen like a typical tablet computer! It features the next generation Windows 8 operating system which is ideal for touch screen computers, and at 11.6 inches in diameter, is compact enough to be easily carried around anywhere with you.

Handheld Games Consoles – the Nintendo 3DS

Since the days of the Game Boy, Nintendo have always managed to create popular handheld games consoles that all the family can use. The Nintendo 3DS is no exception to this fact, with over 31.9 million users worldwide.

It features some specs that would put some desktop computers to shame, and of course utilises 3D technology (without the need to wear any special glasses).

Monitors – the LG ET83 23-inch Touch Screen Monitor

A relatively new entrant to the touch screen monitor market is the LG ET83. It is a 23-inch IPS panel monitor which supports full-HD 1080p resolutions and features a 10-point touch – meaning you can use all of the fingers on both of your hands with it!
