British Telecom is altering the technology in the fibre street cabinets, which will take the current 40Mbps speeds to a whopping 80Mbps. BT hopes to be offering this new faster service early next year. Next year over 10 million homes will have access to superfast broadband throughout the UK, and over two-thirds of the UK will have access to superfast broadband by 2015, as BT has pledged to spend £2.5 billion. The new style larger cabinets will also have BT adverts placed on them.
