One For All Simple 4 universal remote control (URC6440) Review

When it comes to remote controls, most of us probably have at least 3 laying around in our living rooms.  There’s the TV, of course, as well as all the other peripheral devices you have plugged into your home entertainment center; naturally, each one of these machines requires some form of remote control device.

The question is – what if you could control all of your devices (including TV’s, PVR, and DVD players) with one handy remote?  In short, that’s exactly what the one for all simple 4 universal remote control is capable of.  Unlike many other so-called universal remotes, the one for all really is quite versatile and highly programmable.  Speaking from experience, I’ve found many universal remotes to be somewhat shoddy in their basic design.  Likewise, many of the other remotes tested would lose their settings unexpectedly, and if a universal remote is going to have to be constantly programmed, what good is it?  Luckily, the one for all isn’t one of these remotes; it does what it is supposed to do while also incorporating several additional features which are quite nice.

For starters, this remote can hold the codes for up to four devices, which is certainly handy.  Additionally, it has a surprising 15-metre range, which allows for operation nearly anywhere you decide to place your devices (good news for those who like to constantly rearrange their furniture, perhaps).  Furthermore, all of the standard functions you’d expect to find on a quality universal remote are included as well.

How easy is it to program?  Seriously, for most applications, the average person will be able to set it up with as little as three button presses.  In most cases the codes will be automatically detected and set, with no further action required.

For those devices which aren’t listed there are additional options.  For example, a standard code list is included which has been proven to work with around:

  • 900 brands of TVs
  • 500 brands of DVD/Blu-ray players
  • 900 brands of Receiver boxes
  • 280 brands of Audio players

If that wasn’t enough, there is a website (simpleset.com) which allows you to lookup codes for any A/V devices you encounter in the future.  Needless to say, this is an extremely handy bit of information to know.

What’s the bottom line?  The one for all universal remote is both affordable as well as extremely capable.  It can fulfill the roles of several remotes and is very easy to use.  This remote is definitely a must-buy for the person with multiple devices who’s tired of juggling remotes.
