The commute to work is never fun. Hopping on a train is not the best way to start the day, but that’s the reality many of us face. Even worse, there’s rarely a free seat for the journey. So, what do you do when you’re crammed into a busy carriage and can’t move? You turn to your phone for entertainment, of course! Our phones save us from boredom in many situations, and our commute is no different. We’re going to take a look at the few of the ways your phone can save you from boredom.

MUSIC

The most obvious option is, of course, listening to music. Stocking your phone with your favourite tunes means you can pass the journey in style. Many of us couldn’t live without our smartphones, but even more of us couldn’t survive without our music. The commute is the perfect time to revisit the songs you love. Start your day off on the right note by listening to songs that make you feel good. Learn everything you need to know about headphones and stock up on a good quality pair that you can wear with comfort. The best thing about this option is that it doesn’t matter how busy the train is. You can plug your headphones in and leave your phone to play. Shuffle is a wonderful thing, and can ensure you get variety without having to struggle to reach your phone!

READING

Reading is another fantastic way to pass your commute. This one may be best for days when the train isn’t so busy. It won’t be easy to read if you’re crammed in tight! When you do get the chance, reading will pass the journey in no time. The bad thing about books is that they’re heavy and take up room in your bag. A much easier way of reading is an app on your phone. Many apps allow you to read books on your phone, including a Kindle app which can sync with your Kindle! This choice also has the benefit of meaning you have all your books with you when you need them.

AUDIOBOOKS

If your train is always too busy for reading, familiarize yourself with audiobooks. Audiobooks allow you to enjoy the books you love with as much ease as you listen to music. Get out that top quality pair of headphones you bought, and get listening. Once you get into the habit of listening to books, you won’t be able to imagine passing your commute any other way. Audiobooks are interesting, enjoyable and convenient!

PODCASTS

If books aren’t your thing, you might want to delve into the world of podcasts. Podcasts offer the chance to listen to discussions you’re interested in on the go! Most phones come with a podcast app installed which will allow you to browse through your options. There are options for any interest, from comedy to political debate. All you need to do is choose a topic and see what’s available. Then, get listening!
